The Goblin Shark is a medium sized species of shark found in ABZU.

Appearance[ | ]

The Goblin Shark has a thin, streamlined shape and an elongated tail with a shortened lower caudal lobe. It has two fins atop its back at roughly the same size, blunt pectoral fins, pelvic fins and an anal fin. Its lower caudal lobe appears to be made of a different type of tissue compared to the rest of the shark. The goblin shark is around twice the size of the Diver.

The shark's colour scheme has a brown tint to it; the topside is a brownish colour similar to murky water and the underside is a considerably lighter brown. The shark's topside colour fades to black on the tail. Its black eyes are reflective of light similar to a cat's.

Location[ | ]

The Goblin Shark can be found swimming throughout Chapter 4.

Behaviour and Information[ | ]

This shark is usually content to idly swimming around passively, taking no notice of creatures approaching it. When hunting, the goblin shark's jaw will take a millisecond to come out, grab and pull in prey, rather than simply biting it.

Real-life information[ | ]

(Sourced from National Geographic Kids. You can read the full article here.)

Goblin sharks are a species of fish that usually live at the bottom of the ocean along continental shelves (or a continent's edges). These pink animals can grow 12 feet long and weigh up to 460 pounds. They have narrow snouts and fanglike teeth. Spotted mostly off the coast of Japan, they’re named for their likeness to mythical goblins that appear in Japanese folklore.

Scientists don’t know much about the behavior of these rarely seen animals. But they believe that goblin sharks are solitary, just like many other shark species. They also think the fish are most active in the morning and evening. These animals are likely sluggish creatures, which can make it hard to chase food. Luckily for the slowpokes, their special extendable jaws give them some extra bite.

Trivia[ | ]
